As a younger man I had an interest in things of a spiritual nature but struggled to find a way to express those yearnings. Unfortunately, at that time, my experience with some traditional churches was not positive, and for many years I tried to find “my own way”. I had, however, always been fascinated by the symbolism, history, and tradition of the Catholic Church.
The Catholics I came across in my day to day life generally impressed me with their moderate position on many issues and their deep sense of social justice. One of those Catholics that impressed me more than most was my fiancé Deslea who introduced me to this Parish. She has nurtured my spiritual growth and has agreed to be my Godparent. Deslea is a living example of God’s Grace in practice.
The RCIA program provided a solid basis in helping us connect with scripture and in understanding the many traditions of the Church. Sister Therese, Pam and Joy generously gave so much of their time and it is most appreciated.
Finally, I must say that from the first time I set foot in St Vincent’s I was taken with the warmth, friendliness and acceptance of the parish community. Fathers Michael, Gerry and Damian have been wonderfully supportive and open and I have come to know many parishioners in a very short time. I thank you all for making this commitment so special and I look forward to growing with you in God’s love.
Yours in Christ
