I had the privilege of sponsoring Heather as she entered into full communion with the Catholic Church. Heather has wanted to become a Catholic for many years and she already knew so much about our religion.
The spirituality she brought to our meetings, the prayerful way she approached the scrutinies and the awe and wonder that she felt at the Easter Vigil were an inspiration to me and really helped to deepen my faith.
I could see that Heather really felt the power, strength and love of God as the Priests and the RCIA team laid their hands on her during the Confirmation ceremony.
Heather’s ‘conversion’ to Catholicism really emphasised that conversion is a daily event, not just something that happens on one day of the year. Each day I have to turn back to God and in His infinite mercy, He takes me back. It takes wonderful people like Heather to bring freshness to my love of God and allows me to renew my own faith.
Faith, hope and love have really been the underlying (though spontaneous) theme in our RCIA group this year. The whole group bonded so well.
I would like to thank Heather for allowing me the honour of being her sponsor. It was a spiritual journey and I now we will be friends for life after this experience.
I would also like to thank the other candidates and the rest of the RCIA team for making this year’s RCIA cycle one I will never forget and will draw strength from forever.
Yours faithfully,
Susan.
